1 A 222 Barracks
Pictured is the inside of the barracks that we, as new guys, stayed in as we went through what was called 'Cherry School'. This was some time in September of 1970, naturally in Cu Chi. I really have to go by what I wrote on the back of the pictures because all of the details have tended to fade over the years. The 'circled feet' are mine! What hasn't faded though is how I felt a bit leery, to say the least, of my anticipation of what being in the field in Vietnam would be like (even though I watched it on TV for 7 years). I was drafted in September 1969, so I already had a year in the service - Basic at Fort Gordon, Infantry AIT at Fort Polk, assignment as an artillery guard in Fort Lewis to train for a NATO maneuver in Germany, the 30-day NATO maneuver, and then sent to Vietnam.
